Easter 2011

My, my, how time flies.... It's obvious that I haven't blogged in 5 months, but life has been a little busy. First, I'd like to share our excitement about baby Boerger #3, expected to arrive the first week of November! We thrilled and nervous! Secondly, it's been difficult the last month and a half... While visiting my family for spring break, I suddenly developed pain in my lower leg/calf. I went to the emergency room 5 days after the pain first began because it was unbearable. Although I told the ER peeps what I suspected to be the problem, I was told I had a high ankle sprain. I came home and suffered nearly another week with excruciating pain and felt my suspicions were true since I now had pain in the back of my knee, swelling and inability to walk on that leg. Suspicions were true-- I had 2 blood clots in my leg and a clot in my lung called a pulmonary embolism. After several days in the hospital, I was released to care for myself at home. I'm on injections daily to thin my blood and hopefully prevent further blood clots from forming. Baby seems well. That's where the drama's been. Sooo, enough about that... Here's a few pics from Easter!

We took a little trip to San Antonio to see my family. It was a quick weekend, but always worth it to see family!

Gone Fishing....

We piled up the boys' new fishing rods in the suburban and took a little treck to our favorite pond. Looks like Mommy still has it! The boys caught this catfish....

I scored BIG! I was able to get 4 tickets to a sold-out Jack Hanna event at our local zoo! The boys were SO excited to see Jack! The boys drew the most attention because of their outfits, including extra time with good ol' Jack himself!

Jack autographed a photo of him for the boys, as well as their hats which Jack greatly admired! The zoo keepers all know the Boerger boys since we frequent the zoo all year. The zoo owner, Mr.Caldwell, requested a photo with the boys by his personal photographer.

It's amazing how fast the year has flown by. It seems as though I just held them in my arms for the very first time and now they are 3. I love each new stage, though it also brings its own difficulties. Camden & Cayden are two totally different boys. Their one constant likeness is their deep love for elephants, giraffes & horses. Scott & I could not be more thankful for the blessing they are to our lives. Happy Birthday Boerger boys! WE LOVE YOU TO THE MOON & BACK!!

On those hot summer days, we do fun crafts like finger paint, puzzles, crayons, play-doh, bubbles, balls & sprinklers....

When that gets old, we do something extra special like going to the zoo with our great friends...

Boys are so much fun! They see life in a unique way. There are countless times when the boys are holding a parakeet on their seeded popsicle stick and they ask very important questions like, "Where do they make poopoo? Where are their hands? Where do they go night-night?" I love the newness of everything to their young little minds.

I can't believe that May has come & gone! The boys completed their 1st year of preschool. They LOVE school & have learned so much from their teacher, Ms.Teresa (right, below). She said the boys have shown the most growth out of anyone in her 2 classes, height-wise & knowledge-wise. They grew 3 inches in 8 months!! I couldn't be more proud!! (Cayden, L; Cam, R)

Mother's Day 2010

I love Mother's Day. I aspire to be the best Mom I can possibly be to our two little boys. Afterall, God has entrusted two precious, loving, beautiful boys to me. I had breakfast in bed from the boys (poptarts and a cup of coffee); I opened up cards & cried at the beautiful gift I received from the boys (made at preschool). It was beautiful. The Arthritis Walk

While the Damans were here visiting, we were able to do something a little special.... Scott & I had signed up to do the Arthritis Walk 5K honoring my mother-in-law, Linda, and my friend Lisa. It was so wonderful that their visit fell on the weekend of the event. Lisa & I met when I was about 12 wks pregnant with the boys; we currently serve in MOPS (Mother's of Preschoolers) together.

Camden & Cayden were excited that Gramm & Papa were coming to visit. They hoped that their favorite Billy Goat, Butch, would somehow make it in Gramm or Papa's suitcase; see pic of Butch below...

These boys love being with family. They are getting to the age where they enjoy receiving phone calls & spending time with others. We love how most of our family makes an effort to stay connected to our boys--they need that. We all do. Thanks for making life special!

I love this new phase of life.... exploring the world in a real way, dressed like a cowboy! Thanks to my friend Heather, we were able to enjoy the animals at her ranch.

Here's my hunky Camden....

Cayden found love at first sight! He ran to "Pony" fearlessly, saying "I ride horsey! I ride horsey, PLEASE!!"

Camden was a little hesitant, but he rode Pony nonetheless. What a courageous boy!

And yet, something else sparked their attention......

Ahh yes, who could resist chasing roosters & chickens?!

I don't know where their fascination for animals has come from, but one thing is for sure--they LOVE them. All they want to see are animals, both farm & zoo types. No balls, trucks or toys, just animals all day long, everyday. We are embracing their uniqueness by exposing them as much as possible to the things they love.

We were so happy to celebrate Easter with family in San Antonio. The boys are gaining understanding about 'family', so it was special for them to see all of us together as a family.

Everyday, several times a day, the boys line up their most cherished animals in "a train". It doesn't matter if they're indoors, outdoors, bathing or whatever, these animals are in their close posession. By the way, these animals are only 1/3 of what they have!

Daddy is their favorite "toy", although sometimes they do prefer their elephants over him, HA!

Life is beautiful. Everything else is just frosting on the cake....

Valentine's Day Weekend

After most of the snow melted, Scott came home from work and took the boys outside for a moment. We're a little hesitant since the boys both have strep throat and all 4 ear infections. Doesn't look like it, does it?? Cayden's wearing blue & Camden's wearing green thanks to the handiwork of Linda's friend Kim.

We usually see a few flurries on Valentine's Day weekend, but this was out of the ordinary. The boys had so much fun! I remember my Dad always being my special Valentine...now I get to be the joyful Mommy of two little Valentines and wife to one incredible husband.

Sadly, our boys just started antibiotics for all 4 ear infections and strep throat. This is the closest they'll get to snow unless it warms up a bit. They kept saying, "Shoes on! Shoes on! Slide on snow! Papa & Gramm's today!" Breaks my heart that they miss family so much. But for the smile it brings, here's to SNOW!

Yes, the time has come.... our children have been in toddler beds for 2 weeks. They are so proud to tell everyone that they are now in "BIG BOY BEDS!" Nap-time has been a hard transition as they seem to enjoy their freedom to run around their empty room, but bed-time has been smooth so far. I can't believe how fast time flies. I long for the cribs!

I think this was may favorite activity! The boys & I were "ice skating" and we had a blast. They chased me around the "rink" and giggled until they were winded. I loved sharing this time with them.

Scott & I went snowmobiling in Monarch and then we stayed at a hot springs in Mt. Princeton. It was so beautiful! We saw a deer in the road and he came up to our window. Breathtaking!

Christmas 2009 was enjoyed in Colorado with family. Why are the boys in laundry baskets?? Well, they were make-shift sleds for the boys! Cayden & Camden got to see Phil, a real Llama, Butch the Billy Goat, horses & chickens. Scott & I went snowmobiling through the mountains in Monarch & then stayed at a hot springs resort in Mt. Princeton. It was so wonderful to go swimming in a hot outdoor pool while the temperature was about 9 degrees! Our vacation was filled with family, fun & beautiful scenery.

This is the first photo the boys have taken with Santa. They talked all morning about wanting to see him and sit on his lap. When we arrived, they were so excited to see him...until it was time to sit on his lap. After a little toddler deliberation, the boys decided they would stand in front of Santa and politely asked him to keep his hands on his chair and not touch them. We were so thankful for a considerate Santa Claus!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving! Several of my family came to celebrate Thanksgiving with us in Tyler. The boys loved the company! Here they are with baby Emily.

Cayden is snuggling with his Grandpa. I was thrilled to have my Dad & family here! The boys would call out for their Grandpa in the mornings & loved spending time with him.

My Grandpa is getting kisses from Cayden. The boys are the only great-grandchildren in our family. The boys call him Wello (for Abuelo).

The End of Gramm's Visit

Cayden & Cam had their first Thanksgiving Program at their preschool in November. Our precious little Indians were adorable, but the singing was cut short when they spotted us in the crowd.

Fall time has been fun at the Boerger home. We've been buried in leaves, hide animals in raked-up mounds and so much more. The boys have been so happy to have their Gramm here from Colorado. Cayden was in the hospital for 3 days with pneumonia. Thankfully, all has cleared and everyone is well.

The boys attended the Toddler Fair at their preschool on October 1st. They were so excited to wear their cowboy hats to school! Cayden is in red, Camden in green.

This is the boys' first experience with cotton candy. Camden was thrilled but Cayden was quite unsure what to make of the texture. We had a picnic in the grass and enjoyed fun games. The boys entered their stuffed rabbits into the "Livestock Show."

It's really interesting to listen to twin-talk. The boys are totally in-tune with what the other is saying amidst the blah blah blahs. They were enjoying the light rain underneath the umbrella, deep in conversation. Then it was time for dinner. The boys immediately jumped into Daddy's seat at the first opportunity. They are starting to look more alike! Cam (L), Cayden (R).

Ahh, what a great Mommy trip to Nashville, TN! There were 11 Mother's of Preschoolers from our group that attended.

We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Funny thing to see buildings, walkways & a river inside of a larger building. This was photographed from the lobby of the floor where our conference was held. Yes, it's all indoors.

2 Year Check Up

The boys had their 2 year check up on Sept 9th. The boys have remained in the 95-99th percentile on their growth chart since they were born. They are healthy, active boys with a love for adventure & fun. So, drum roll please~~~~~~~~

While Mommy's Away...

Daddy & the boys have lots of fun while Mommy is away. I never know what I'll come home to, but I do know that they're making memories.... The boys dragged one of their chairs to the pantry to assist them as they rearranged the food. How sweet boys, really, you are too kind! How about rearranging Daddy's tools?! Cayden watching Barney on the window sill. What a silly boy!

First Day of Preschool

Today is the boys' first day of preschool! The boys have been exited, saying "school, school, backpack." They have no idea what school is, so I'm amazed that they're so happy. Mommy packed their lunch and drew their favorite animal on a love note.... They're so excited about school that they don't even want to take a picture. "School, NOW!"

Cayden darted for the table with all the activities scattered on it. Camden (below) liked that his backpack belonged on a peg that was low enough for him to reach. I reminded him that he would have lots of fun & that I would be back to pick him up. He fussed for a small moment & the rest was history! Cayden was not available for a picture since he was busy perusing all the activities!

After a week in Alice & San Antonio, the boys are back home. They only asked for me twice and Daddy once the whole time they were gone. They had lots of fun playing with their cousins & eating all the great food that Grandma made. We missed their presence here at home. We could hardly wait to see them! Our reunion was a sweet moment of hugs, kisses & squeezes. I especially loved when they placed their precious little hands on either side of my face, gazing into my eyes saying "Maaaammmmaaaaa." Welcome home little guys! We missed those funny expressions!

Where there's a sprinkler, there's a party. At least that how it seems to be according to my boys. They loved being surrounded by lots of family that loves to join in the fun. Time for a water break. Anyone want a drink-- there's plenty more room around us?! What one does, the other does too.

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY CAYDEN & CAMDEN!!

The boys turned 2 years old on our visit to Alice. The only thing missing from this fiesta was our Colorado family. The boys meet the Elmo pinata....

Alice has not had rain in a VERY long time. Nearly all grass is gone. Hence, Camden falling and wondering why his hands have dirt. They were so funny about their feet touching dirt too.
The scorching 107 degree weather warranted a blow-up pool. The boys are obsessed with water!

Camden snagging a little quality time with his Gampa; I love seeing my Dad with his grandbabies! These boys will be playing golf someday because of their Gampa!

The boys even got to spend time with their Grammy Cantu. My Mom came to spend the day with us, along with my sister & nephew. Here are the boys lovingly drenching her with water after she received kisses.

My BIRTH-Day

Two years ago today, I gave birth to two precious miracles. Cayden was born first at 9:08pm, weighing 6# 1oz, 19 in long. Camden was born at 9:10pm, weighing 7# 2oz, 19 in long. What a birth day it was! 16 hours of labor and a failed epidural, ending with me begging for a Cesarean Section. Alas, we heard their first cries and met our sons face to face.

Happy Birthday my sweet-baby-boys! Oh how we love you. We prayed for you & are so blessed to have each of you in our lives.

Elmo has made his appearance despite fights between the food coloring, frosting & myself. Nonetheless, he has arrived and is ready for his debut. My friend Holly is hosting the boys' birthday party at her home where we have access to her swimming pool in the scorching triple digit degrees with 90% humidity. THANK YOU HOLLY!!
It took the boys a moment to realize Elmo was on the table, but as soon as they saw him, they jumped to their feet (on the chair) and began to dive towards him. Luckily, I was able to grab them in time! "Happy Birthday to you; happy birthday to..."

Lindsay was appointed to cut into the boys' beloved Elmo. So fun having her here!

Making Elmo

While some of my friends are gifted artistically & creatively, I am not. I can, however, take a cake mold and turn it into deliciousness. The boys are having their 2 yr birthday party at my friend's home where she has graciously allowed us to use her swimming pool. Here is where Elmo begins to emerge. My sister-in-law Lindsay thought she would try to make Elmo cupcakes as favors for the kids. Poor Elmo... better nix that idea. In her defense, the boys walked into the kitchen, saw her cupcake masterpiece & immediately exclaimed "mElmo, mElmo!"

Ahhh, Lindsay is so proud of her sickly Elmo. This gave me laughs for days until mElmo cupcake went bye-bye. Love ya Linds!

The boys LOVE elephants! They call them Dar-Dars. I love Camden's expression when he's telling us about the Dar-Dars behind him. Mommy & Camden at the park.

Daddy was showing the boys the bird laying in her nest in our Water Birch tree. I love that Scott is always willing to stop the busyness of life to teach something fascinating to two little boys who love to learn.

This is one of my favorite moments... Camden gets off his tractor and tries to get on the 4-wheeler with Cayden (inoperable for safety). Cayden holds out his hand in a stop-motion and says "No no brother, that's yours" as he points to the tractor. Who knew he could make a full sentence?!

The boys love to be outdoors. We try to go out in the morning when the sweltering heat is as minimal as possible. Camden (green) & Cayden (red) received a new picnic table and are inspecting it for approval....Shortly after, we found the boys crawling in & out of the doggy kennel. Cayden prefers to keep his feet on stable ground while Camden enjoys swinging. Although they alternate, Cayden only lasts about a minute or two before wanting to be back on the ground.

Though this summer has been filled with events, some of our most precious memories are candid, outdoor playine and visits from our family & friends.

When Gramm & Papa arrived for a visit, the boys were showered with hugs, kisses & books! Oddly enough, they would rather have a book than any of their toys. They take books with them in the car, to their bed, all around the house and even outdoors. They had a chance to "read" to Gramm & Papa to everyone's delight! So happy for my little book worms!

My Summer Adventure

This summer has been really busy for us with something on our calender nearly every single day. One of the events that has hopped it's way onto my calender is the adventure boot camp I've joined since the end of May. It's been rewarding to see the results from a really hard work-out. At the beginning of each month commitment, we are tested on a timed mile, sit-ups and push ups. At the end of the month we retest.

First mile time was 12:05; Second mile time-- 9:28!! WooHoo! Best of all was having all 3 of my boys at the finish line cheering me on. Camden & Cayden waved their little fists in the air yelling, "Mama, Mama!"

It's a special moment for me as a first-time Mom to have our boys invited to a birthday party for one of their special friends. We had a great time celebrating Kate Glenney's 3rd Birthday Party!

They jumped from pool to pool, but loved the "Dar Dar" (elephant) the most. They even patiently waited their turn to slide down "Dar Dar's" trunk! After a splashing-great time, the boys joined in the singing of Happy Birthday and enjoyed yummy cake. What a day!

I was cooking in the kitchen when I heard agitated cries from the boys' bedroom. I called out to them in an effort to stop what I thought was rough-housing. Again, a louder agitated cry made it's way to my ears from a distance. I marched over to their bedroom ready to pry them off of each other. Walking down the hallway, I heard "stuck, stuck" & this is how I found Cayden: Here is Camden dragging Daddy's important tubing attachments for their pool. When Daddy isn't looking, Camden likes to hide his treasures under the wagon seat or other inconspicuous places.

Ah, & the best one of all....I was working a 13 hour shift at the hospital so Scott was in charge. He put on Sesame Street so he could type an important letter. A moment later, he realized that the house seemed strangely quiet & knew he needed to investigate. Scott found the boys in our bedroom....Camden was on the side of the bed laying on a pillow, looking at all the DVD's, CD's & books he had taken off several shelves. Cayden was in the bathroom. Every drawer was open & he had put Scott's deodorant, razor, shave cream, floss, toothbrush & electric razor into the toilet, along with a whole roll of toilet paper & a few of Mommy's personals. In the garden tub, he had placed everything else he could find, as seen above, including the heavy weighing scale. Life with twin toddler boys IS an adventure!

After the BBQ was finished and the boys were changed into their favorite p.j.'s, we sat around the kitchen table laughing about stories past. In the midst of it all, Camden goes outside to say "nite-nite" to the swimming pool. At first it was from afar, then he was close enough to touch the water with his finger tips & then it happened--Camden dove into the water with his clean, dry p.j.'s & dry, non-swim diaper. As soon as Cayden witnessed the dive from the back door window, he flung the door open and ran to the pool, diving in mid-air! Nope they weren't done yet.....

It's been such a joy to see the boys interact with their Grandpa, & Great-grandparents! We have laughed at their attempts to have a 'conversation', but it's still mostly babbles to us with a few occassional, understandable words.
They jump into Grandpa's bed to wake him up in the morning with hugs & kisses. Then we hear the pitter-patter of their feet as they run to Great-grandpa's bed and begin to poke his eyes in an effort to wake him up. Camden & Cayden are head-over-heals in love with Great-grandma. She changes them, cooks for them, takes them for walks & plays on the floor with them. As soon soon as they wake up we hear them call from their room "Gama? Gampa? Melo (abuelo)?" What can I say.....they love their family!

Camden & Cayden haven't been to the zoo since they were about 7 months old. They had an appreciation for the animals today. They new most of their names and the noises they make. They pointed at everything in site! At the end of the day, we headed to the goat area where the boys could be 'hands-on' with the animals. It was a perfect day!

What a beautiful day to play outdoors! Cayden & Camden love to run around the yard kicking balls & pushing dump trucks & trains. Little did they know that they were about to meet the sprinkler system!

They had so much fun running through the sprinklers and trying to drink the water in mid-air. The look on their face was priceless and the laughter contagious. We'll be seeing lots more sprinkler moments this summer with our HOT, humid weather. Now all I need is a bar of soap....

Boerger Boy Facts

Often times some of you will hear me say that life with twins is hard. It is. Without having family near to lean on and share the load, it makes for some really long days. But I hope that you also hear me when I say there is no greater blessing in my life then the pair of boys God has blessed us with. They are beautiful, happy, playful little boys with personalities & interests that are completely different from each other. We rarely ever call them "the twins," and around our family & friends they are most known as "the Boerger boys."

At nearly 20 months of age, the boys :

are taller & heavier than all of the 2-2 1/2 year olds in their Sunday School class;
have all 20 of their teeth;
have vocabulary of about 75-80 words;
still speak their own language, frequently;
love to sing songs;
eat a packet of oatmeal, 2 1/2 eggs, a banana or half an apple and a whole cup of milk each just for breakfast; an hour later, they are ready for a snack;
have figured out how to pour water from a cup onto their brother's head;
can run with ease;
love watching 'mmELMO';
are (gratefully) still in their cribs and take 2 naps a day.

It's always hard for us to say good-bye to family because everyone lives so far away. We really wished my Dad could have made it. The boys enjoyed an especially great time with their cousins & great grandparents! When it came time to say good-bye, the boys cheerfully waved to Scott & I, blowing us kisses as they made their way to the door in attempts to leave with our family. We were so blessed to have our family here!
